Join Thalia Symphony for our 2024-25 season opener Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2024 at Town Hall featuring music by Ottorino Respighi, Mel Bonis, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and William Grant Still. This season we will be exploring both old and new: especially new pieces that take older pieces for inspiration and old pieces that we hope to approach with fresh ears.
Respighi’s ‘The Birds’ re-works music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Bonis’ ‘Three Legendary Women’ is a modern take on Cleopatra, Salome and Ophelia. Mozart’s Overture to ‘The Magic Flute’ is among opera’s most imaginative. And we are especially excited to perform Still’s brilliant and ground-breaking ‘Afro American Symphony’- premiered in the 1930s and revived in recent years.
